Overview

In the Functional Chemicals Division, we are engaged in businesses across diverse industries and our involvement in downstream industries is growing. In particular, we are focusing our efforts on strengthening operations in business areas that are expected to grow due to changes in the needs of society and consumers. Targeted sectors include commodity resins, functional resins, and functional materials. Our business investments focus on the needs of a wide range of markets and include production of petrochemicals in Saudi Arabia; manufacture and sale of chemical compounds, such as vinyl chloride and polypropylene, in North America; and hydrogen peroxide production in Japan.

Strategy

1. Building and strengthening the value chain

We are building and strengthening the value chain from upstream to downstream in the field of commodity resins. From the production of petrochemicals in Saudi Arabia upstream to processed products including packaging materials and daily necessities downstream, we handle a wide variety of raw materials and products.

2. Market-oriented regional strategy

We are promoting market-oriented regional strategy for overseas markets and expanding our trading presence in China, India and other developing markets such as Russia and Turkey.

3. Strengthening Customer Response Through Spin-Offs and Sales Companies

MC boasts a collection of spin-offs and sales companies that are active across the chemicals industry, allowing us to provide best-fit solutions to our customers. In commodity plastics, these include companies like Mitsubishi Shoji Plastics in Japan and Mitsubishi International Polymer Trade Corp. in the U.S.; in functional resins and materials, these include companies such as MC Yamasan Polymers Co. in Japan and MIC Specialty Chemicals in the U.S. Through this approach, we are strengthening our sales capacity, and at the same time, responding to diverse needs in a wide range of high demand fields.
