In the Chemicals Group, we contribute to creating an affluent society by supplying essential chemicals and chemical products to numerous industries. These chemicals include raw materials for synthetic resins and fibers, chemical fertilizers, inorganic raw materials, industrial salts, plastics, electronics materials, and life science products.

Overview

The Chemicals Group has three divisions: the Commodity Chemicals Division, which handles products close to their material state; the Functional Chemicals Division, which expands into the downstream product area including such products as plastics and electronic materials; and the Advanced Sciences & Technologies Division, which promotes the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies and advancement into new industries.

Principal markets include: petrochemical products, chemical products, energy, automobiles, construction, paint and adhesives, ceramics, electronics and semiconductors, communications, textiles, fertilizers, agriculture and livestock, food and foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals and medical care, and distribution. Through our involvement in these diverse fields, we are contributing to the enrichment of society.

We are currently dealing with countries all over the world through our network of 41 offices in 25 countries. In order to respond to diverse market needs, we strive to provide higher added value as a trading company. The specific measures taken include establishment of distribution bases and focused allocation of human resources.


Strategy

In the Commodity Chemicals Division, we will look to strengthen our trading and logistics capabilities. At the same time, we will actively develop our business investments, chiefly through upstream investments in resources and raw materials where our competitive strength lies.

In the Functional Chemicals Division, we are building and strengthening the global value chain from upstream to downstream, and promoting a market-oriented regional strategy in fast-growing overseas markets, and a one-stop supply platform strategy to strengthen our assortment of commodities for industries in demand of these products.

The Advanced Sciences & Technologies Division is responsible for promoting strategies to expand its business with an eye on the future. In this division, we are commercializing cutting-edge technologies and working to foster new ventures in such areas as healthcare, biotechnology, nano-technology, information electronics and environmental business.
