A company established with investment from Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), MC-TOWA International Sweeteners began commercial production of maltitol in Thailand in November 2005, using locally-sourced tapioca. As a production base of MC's sweeteners sales business, the company is contributing to the expansion of our business in the field of food chemistry.



In June 2007, Mitsubishi Corporation increased its investment to Nano Materials International Corporation (NMIC), a joint venture with U.S.-based Materials and Electrochemical Research Corporation (MER) and has begun in earnest to search for potential applications for high-tech materials, particularly nano materials developed by NMIC. MC has also started the commercialization of these applications. NMIC is developing businesses mainly in the U.S. to produce and sell high-value-added products that satisfy the actual needs of customers.



The petrochemical company SHARQ was established in Saudi Arabia as a joint venture between SPDC Ltd. which Mitsubishi Corporation has invested in, and Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC). Expansion works are currently in progress and upon completion of this expansion in the second half of 2008, the plant will be the world's largest class for its type. Through the operations of SHARQ, SPDC is contributing to schemes for personal education and training--an area of important national policy in Saudi Arabia--by working at all levels to help establish vocational training institute for plastic processing.
