The Namikata Terminal Business Unit carries out asset management and administrative operations for the Namikata Terminal, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation. Located on the Seto Inland Sea near Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, this terminal was established in 1983 as one of Japan's primary, large-scale storage depots for petroleum, chemicals, LPG and other raw fuels. Since then, the terminal has played a key role as an energy supply hub receiving some one million tons of petroleum, LPG and chemicals annually from Japan and overseas. In addition to supplying energy to local industries in Ehime, these materials are shipped on to western Japan, Kyushu, and to China and South Korea and elsewhere in Asia. On a site adjoining the Namikata Terminal, Japan is making its first attempt to build a national LPG storage terminal based on a subterranean rock storage system, as part of a government-led initiative. The Namikata Terminal is expected to administer this government-led initiative following completion, which is targeted for 2009. Asset management and administrative operations for the Namikata Terminal, support operations for the Japan's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage system and the Namikata Terminal Company Ltd.
