The Oman Project Unit is engaged in operations related to the Oman's LNG Project, including investment management and marketing for liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by the project. Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) has a 2.77% share of Oman LNG L.L.C., a company created to promote the Oman LNG Project. This is the first LNG project that MC has developed in the Middle East. Oman LNG L.L.C. can produce approx. 6.6 million tons per year. In April 2000, it started to supply approx. 4 million tons annually to the Korea Gas Corporation. In October 2000, it began supplying approximately 700,000 tons annually to the Osaka Gas Company, Ltd. A second LNG project in Oman is being promoted by Qalhat LNG. In addition to LNG purchase agreement with the company in May 2006, MC secured a presence in the venture by acquiring a 3% share in Qalhat LNG—further highlighting MC's active participation in Oman's LNG projects. Qalhat LNG has the capacity to supply more than approx. 3.3 million tons of LNG per year. From January 2006, it began supplying approx. 1.65 million tons per year to Union Fenosa, and from February 2006, it began supplying approx. 0.8 million tons per year to MC. (From 2009, it is scheduled to supply approx. 0.8 million tons per year to Osaka Gas.) Taking advantage of its location in the Middle East, this project does not only provide LNG to customers in Asia, but also actively supplies LNG to customers in Europe and the United States.
