The Quito Office was created in 1972 mainly for the execution of projects with the government of Ecuador. Since then, agricultural projects have been under development. Back in 1998, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) began promoting the business of exporting frozen broccoli to Japan, and now MC is the main supplier of Ecuadorian broccoli, with exports of over 3,000 metric tons a year.
MC is taking advantage of Ecuador's great natural resources—such as clean water and air as well as stable weather throughout the year. We are developing our agricultural business by using advanced techniques on mechanized plantations where we can control the application of pesticides and establish a highly reliable trace-back system. Our office carries out the important task of overseeing the quality control of the products to be exported.

Ecuador is a land of orchids; recent field research has suggested that more than 4,000 orchid species live in the wilds of Ecuador. Many of the species found in Ecuador and other Latin American countries are now in danger of extinction. For this reason, private companies like Ecuagenera, which is located in the southern part of Ecuador, are promoting orchid tours through their private reserves. These tours are oriented toward both research and recreation. Trained guides lead visitors on orchid tours through some of the world's most beautiful forests. And what you see and photograph in the wild can also be purchased from the nurseries and taken home.
