MC's Business - Serving the Regional Steel Industry
Furnace sectionThe steel industry in Scandinavia has a long history and still plays an important role in Europe. Steel producers here are niche-oriented, specializing in high-quality products. Outokumpu is the second largest stainless steel producer in Europe and its Tornio plant in Finland is the world's largest integrated stainless steel plant, boasting an annual capacity of 1.7 million tons.

Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) supplied key equipment to Outokumpu's most advanced stainless steel processing line, which adopts a process combining rolling, annealing and pickling (RAP), a concept originally introduced by MC and a Japanese steel producer. The line has a 300 meter long furnace section and is among the largest in the world, processing more than one million tons per year.

MC is also supplying various raw materials to the Scandinavian steel industry. This year, we will become the main supplier of metallurgical coke to the carbon steel producer SSAB based on a long-term agreement. Another area is graphite electrodes for electrical arc steel smelting furnaces. MC is also importing steel coils from Japan for Swedish customers. MC is active in many diverse areas across the Scandinavian steel industry. By using our strong, well-established network, we are continuously seeking new business opportunities with our steel clients.

Trend Now - Music - Exporting Talent
One thing about Sweden that many people are not aware of is the fact that it is the third largest exporter of music in the world after the United States and Great Britain! Ever since ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo" in 1974, Sweden has continually enriched the international pop and rock scene with awards such as the Polar Music Prize and artists such as Roxette, Europe, The Cardigans, Ace of Base, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Robyn, Meja, Alice Deejay and many more. Swedish music video production has also gained a world-class reputation with, for example, Jonas Akerlund's videos for Madonna and Metallica. At the moment, The Concretes is one of Sweden's most hyped bands abroad and the pop band is now gaining positive international music press coverage.

Travel - Truly Cool Accommodations
Jukkasjärvi means "gathering place" and has for centuries been a meeting point for the nomadic Sami peoples during their long and often hard journeys. Today people come from all corners of the world to experience the midnight sun in the summer and a snowy wonderland during the winter months. Nowadays Jukkasjärvi boasts another attraction: The Icehotel. The hotel is constructed every year with some 10,000 tons of crystal clear ice being taken from the nearby Torne River for the building and sculptures. If you find you can't spare the time to travel to northern Sweden, why not try the Icebar located in the Nordic Sea Hotel? How many bars have you been in where not only the bar but also the glasses are made of ice?
