MC's Business - Mining and Export Businesses Established, Involvement in New Projects Targeted
Iron ore dump truckChile has abundant mineral resources and is blessed with a rich natural environment that supplies a wealth of agricultural, forestry, and marine products. Exports of such products are an important source of income for the country.
MC has invested in the Escondida Copper Mine and the Los Colorados Mine and is also involved in the export of minerals and ore. In the food products business, we have established a large international presence through our exports of salmon and wine. While keeping in close contact with our suppliers, we at Mitsubishi Chile Ltda. are always on the lookout for useful information that we can pass along. At the same time, we are actively involved in developing local business. MC is now seeking participation in a variety of large-scale projects, including business related to a power plant planned by the electric company Endesa, construction and equipment sales to various mining companies, and development of an LNG terminal by the state-owned oil company ENAP.
We also secured capital gains through the sale of SKCR Company, a construction equipment rental company established jointly with MIC, which was sold to our local investment partner, SK Corporation.

Trend Now - Sports - Tennis Stars Enjoy Great Popularity
Nicolás Massú and Fernando González are two tennis players from Chile who are competing at the highest levels. In Chile, soccer is generally considered to be the most popular sport, but these two tennis stars are now the nation’s most popular athletes. In the singles competition at the Athens Olympics, Massú won the gold and González the bronze, and the pair also took the gold medal in doubles play. As these were Chile’s first ever Olympic gold medals, the victories ignited an excited frenzy throughout the country.

Food - Popularity of Japanese Food Soars
Sushi Bar “SAKURA”, Sushi Bar “SUSHIHANA”Sushi has recently become very popular in Chile. The most well-known variety of sushi is makizushi, a “sushi roll” consisting of rice and a variety of other ingredients wrapped in crisp seaweed. The popularity of makizushi has triggered greater interest in other types of Japanese food. Two years ago, there were only a few sushi bars in Santiago, but now many Japanese restaurants and sushi bars can be found. Chileans can also buy Japanese food at supermarkets and even order it from home via the Internet or by telephone just like pizza. Japanese food is still relatively expensive in Chile, but this hasn’t stopped people from choosing it as a meal that is both healthy and trendy.
