Since the new Hong Kong International Airport opened in 1998, Lantau Island has become a major transportation hub, and with the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland slated for 2005, the island shows enormous potential for also becoming a tourist destination.
The Drainage Service Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region awarded MCHKG a contract in 2001 to build sewage treatment facilities on Lantau Island for Siu Ho Wan Sewage Treatment Works. The facilities are to handle 180,000 m3 per day of flow capacity and will service the new airport, Disneyland, and new housing developments.
These facilities will represent a major milestone in the field of environmental protection for MCHKG, where a team in the Machinery Department has been busily engaged in a variety of environmental projects. It demonstrates MCHKG's dedication to providing a better environment for both local residents and visitors alike.

Mongkok meaning "corner with lots of people" in Chinese is a special district in Hong Kong. It is a good place for shopping and is gaining popularity with tourists. Mongkok is divided into two parts-east and west. Nine out of ten persons going there will turn east to explore the shops. Almost every street there has its own character, selling somewhat different products-some may offer sportswear or women's clothing while others may specialize in pets or electronics. However, a large complex consisting of a hotel, offices, and a shopping mall has opened on the west side, and people have begun to wonder if this may signal the beginning of the end for Mongkok's small shops.

These days, more and more people are worrying about their health and appearance, and health-related businesses are now booming in Hong Kong. Various goods and services are being offered, including beauty salons and spas; yoga and fat-burning techniques; skin care products and others. However many consumers do not have a well-informed concept of health. Their "knowledge" often comes from advertisements promoting such ideas as "thinner must be healthier", "fat can be burned away easily", and "no cholesterol must be healthier". In order to address this situation, some people have formed an association to educate consumers about healthy living. But according to one Chinese saying, being healthy is actually quite simple: "taking nutritional supplements is not as good as having a balanced diet, which in turn is not as good as sleeping well."
