MC's Business - Peru—A Land of Business Opportunities
Antamina Copper Mine / MC Autos's showroom Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) has been in Peru for more than 50 years, first establishing a presence with a liaison office and later creating Mitsubishi Peru S.A. in October 1964.

Copper-related trading is an important business for MC in Peru. Over the past 10 years, MC has gained greater recognition in the mining industry because of its 10% investment in the Antamina Copper Mine (CMA). CMA is one of the biggest copper mines in South America, and in the near future, Peru is expected to become the world's second leading producer of copper.

Peru is also rich in other metal resources. In addition to its position as the leading producer of silver in South America, it also has extensive mines producing iron ore, zinc and others minerals and the world's major resource companies are now focusing on Peru's potential as a supplier of these materials. While maintaining links with various resource projects, Mitsubishi Peru is also looking to promote sales of plants and machinery to these companies. Its business is further reinforced by the strong presence of MC Autos del Peru S.A., the official national distributor for Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC).

Compared to Brazil, Chile, Mexico and other large nations in Latin America, Peru is relatively small, but it offers big potential. Based on the concerted efforts of its staff, Mitsubishi Peru is aiming to cultivate new business in order to elevate its presence as an office while also collaborating with MC Tokyo to achieve collective objectives.

Trend - Natural Gas Reserves Energize Economy
Camisea Fractionating Plant In 2009, Peru will become a world-class energy exporter thanks to natural gas fields found at Camisea, deep beneath the eastern edge of the Andes Mountains. This natural gas will provide a clean source of energy for many generations of Peruvians. It will also help to energize the economy, providing tangible benefits in the form of export revenues, increased investment, a lower hydrocarbon trade deficit and fuel cost savings for local industry.

The Peru LNG project is now being developed in order to make to the most of this great natural resource. This two billion dollar investment project aims to convert 620 million cubic feet of gas per day into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and export some four million metric tons per year, primarily to the west coast of North America.

A Beginner's Guide - Celebration Attracts Hundreds of Thousands of Devotees to Lima
©PROMPERU Lima is famous for a religious celebration called El Señor de los Milagros or the Lord of Miracles. Considered the largest procession in South America, the Lord of Miracles attracts devotees from all over the country and also from different parts of the world.

The celebration centers on an image of Jesus Christ that is said to have been painted onto a wall by an Angolan slave in 1651. Four years later, an earthquake struck Lima, leveling most of the city. But that image of Jesus remained undamaged, and over time, it became known as the Lord of Miracles.

The main event of the festival occurs on October 18, as hundreds of thousands of devotees join the procession, chanting fervently in the midst of vast clouds of incense. The enormous image of Christ is slowly carried through the city, transported on the shoulders of the cargadores or carriers. In front of the image march the sahumadoras, a group of Catholic women, clad in the purple robes that mark devotion to the Lord of Miracles. Because of the many devotees wearing purple during the celebration, the month of October is known as mes morado or the purple month.

This religious festival is one of the most important in Peru. The worship of the Lord of Miracles has gradually spread from Lima to the rest of the country. The reputation of the image as a healer grows every day, as devotees come forward with new accounts of healings.
