MC's Business - Mitsubishi Corporation's Role in the Auto Industry Drives Growth of National Economy
Holden's South Australian manufacturing plant Mitsubishi Australia Ltd. is proud to provide turnkey project support to GM Holden Ltd., Australia's leading exporter of automotive products and services. With an export market of over 30,000 cars per year, which contributes over AUD$783 million to Australia's economy, Mitsubishi Australia's contribution to this project helps to keep the Australian economy growing. Since 1992, Mitsubishi Australia has been liaising with the client, a Japanese subcontractor and over 12 locally based companies to supply and install equipment that is employed by Holden to manufacture high-quality car bodies. Once completed, these vehicles are exported to the Middle East, the US, Africa and New Zealand.

The automotive business has become a core business for Mitsubishi Australia, employing six Melbourne-based employees and three on-site contractors. The project is coordinated from Melbourne with a site office located on the grounds of Holden's South Australian manufacturing plant.

With each new car model, Mitsubishi Australia's involvement in this project has developed and evolved. Currently we are undertaking body shop tooling and instrument panel projects, working on such aspects as cost control, local procurement, and safety management during installation. We also coordinate between suppliers, such as Hokuto Corporation, and the client to ensure all services are professionally delivered on time.

Trend Now - Drink - Wine from Down Under
Australian wine makers are producing some of the hottest grape varieties in the industry today.

Whilst tourists visit many of the country's 1,046 wine producing vineyards to return with reports of tranquility and picturesque views, wine makers are soberly aware that international hype over their delicious and competitively priced drops mean Australian business is exploding. In 1984 exports accounted for less than 3% of total sales. Today, with more than 1.7 million bottles of wine leaving Australian shores each day, exports have surpassed domestic sales. Most of these are bound for the US and UK where alliances have aided sales, but with over 100 international markets to be cultivated, wine makers have reason to cheer.

Sports - Crowds Flock to See "Aussie Rules"
Photo courtesy of The Australian Embassy, Tokyo Australians are wildly passionate about sports and one of the most popular is a unique football game known as Australian Rules. "Aussie Rules" is a winter sport that began in Melbourne in the late 1800s. Originally begun with six teams, the competition had grown to 12 teams by the middle of the 1920s. Today the game is played nationwide, with ten teams from Victoria, two teams from Western Australia and South Australia, and a team each from Sydney and Brisbane. The game is exciting and physical with fast running and high marking (catching the football). Large crowds in excess of 60,000 people scream encouragement to their favourite team each week, with over 100,000 attending the Grand Final where the premiership is decided.
