January 2008

On January 22nd and 24th a total of 72 Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) volunteers gathered at the Shinagawa and Marunouchi offices, respectively, to help prepare picture books for children in Southeast Asia. The project, which has grown quite popular among MC staff, involves donating translated Japanese children's stories to countries where picture books are in short supply. Volunteers help by adhering translated stickers written in Cambodian, Laotian and other local languages to the various books. The program began in November 2005 and recorded its 30th gathering on January 24th; the same day that the program surpassed the 1,000 book mark. MC plans to continue running this successful and popular program well into the future.

Every year since 1991, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) has conducted the Overseas Regional Aid Program in various countries around the world. One of the programs for fiscal 2007 included the donation of a pickup truck to the Bardo Museum in the Tunisian Republic. On January 16th, a handing over ceremony for the donated vehicle was held in Tunis where over 20 people attended, including the Ambassador of Japan to Tunisia, His Excellency Ambassador Endo.
The museum, which is often referred to as the Tunisian equivalent to the Louvre, was established in 1882 and boasts historically valuable pieces of work including its famous Roman and Byzantine era mosaics. The museum plans to use the donated vehicle, a Mitsubishi Motors L200 pickup truck, for its archeological surveying, art works transporting and various other tasks.
