MC Volunteers Help Put on Special Viewing at the Hiroshima Museum of Art

On March 1st, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and the Hiroshima Museum of Art teamed up to hold a special viewing of the exhibit entitled, "Songs in Praise of Rural Life" for local citizens with disabilities. This was the first time for the Hiroshima Museum of Art to hold such an event which allows those with disabilities to tour the museum at their own pace and after normal viewing hours. 13 volunteers from MC's Chugoku Branch office showed up to help register and guide some of the 80 people who attended the program. Various comments were received from the participants including "For the first time in my life I was able to view art at my own pace" and "It makes me want to start painting."


MC Employees Support Annual YMCA "liby" Charity Concert

Tokyo YMCA "liby" is a program that provides a place to gather for children who are unwilling to go to school because they feel that they don't fit in. On March 8th, the program held its annual Charity Concert and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) employees assisted by helping with registration and by performing in the concert itself. During the day's event, members from MC's Chorus Club sang together with other student and professional music groups in order to raise funds for various "liby" activities.


MC Volunteers Around the Country Prepare Picture Books for Children in Southeast Asia

Employees from MC's Tohoku, Kyushu and Kansai Branches helped prepare picture books for children in Southeast Asia on March 12th, 13th and 18th, respectively. The project, which was held for the first time at the Tohoku and Kyushu Branches, involves adhering translated stickers written in Cambodian and other local languages to various Japanese children's books.
The activity has grown quite popular among MC employees and is even being held during the lunch break in Tokyo.
Once finished, the books will be donated to the countries where the respective languages are spoken.

MC and FC Tokyo Team-up to Hold Youth Soccer School

With the cooperation of professional soccer team FC Tokyo, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) organized a one-day soccer school for elementary school students in the care of local welfare institutions. Held on February 2nd, it was the 12th time that MC has organized such a school and 11 volunteers from MC were also on hand to assist. 43 children participated in the event and all listened intently as they received professional guidance from FC Tokyo's coach, including advice on basic skills like dribbling and passing. With a "mini-game" held during the latter half of the program, the children enjoyed a full day of soccer.


 MC Volunteers Help Put on Special Viewing at Tokyo National Museum

On February 2nd Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) and the Tokyo National Museum collaborated to hold a special viewing of a temporary collection of various articles representing over 1,000 years of Japan's Imperial Court. MC works with various museums to offer those with disabilities the opportunity to visit after hours in order to enjoy the facility's offerings at their own pace and without the bustling crowds. 12 MC volunteers showed up to help register and guide some of the 170 Tokyo area citizens with disabilities who attended. Numerous comments were received from participants including, "Being able to view the beautiful Imperial treasures, books, writings and so forth moved my soul."


MC Volunteers Help Make Toys for Children

On February 7th and 13th a total of 25 Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) employees gathered at the Marunouchi and Shinagawa offices to make toys for children with disabilities. MC volunteers, with the cooperation of the volunteer circle Group Moko Moko, made fleece hand puppets in the shape of bears, rabbits and other animals. The finished puppets, which can help promote hand movement skills and are safe for children to use, will be donated to various institutions including schools for the disabled, special needs classrooms within elementary schools and toy libraries.


MC Volunteers Prepare Picture Books for Children in Southeast Asia

On February 19th and 26th, a total of 91 volunteers at offices in both Tokyo and Sapporo, Hokkaido gathered to help prepare picture books for children in Southeast Asia. The project, which has grown quite popular among MC staff, involves adhering translated stickers written in Cambodian, Laotian and other local languages to various Japanese language children's books. Once finished, the books will be donated to the countries where the respective languages are spoken.


MC Employees, Families and International Scholarship Recipients Assist in Forest Conservation Efforts

Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) employees, their families and MC international scholarship recipients studying in Japan gathered in Hachioji City on the outskirts of Tokyo on February 23rd to lend a hand with forest conservation efforts. Organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Tokyo Greenship Action is an environmental conservation project that links local Non-Profit Organizations (NPO) and businesses together to help maintain various conservation areas within Tokyo. This past event marked the 5th time that MC volunteers have participated since joining the program in September of 2005. A total of 25 volunteers, lead by members of a local NPO, worked under sunny winter skies to cut back overgrowth, thin out trees and other related activities.
