New Company in South India Promotes Sales and Service of Industrial Machinery

Last November, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) established MC Craftsman Machinery Pvt. Ltd. (MCCM) in Coimbatore in South India. MCCM is promoting sales and service of industrial machinery, centered on Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) and CO2 laser cutting systems manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. Together with its Indian partner, Craftsman Automation Pvt. Ltd., and three MC Group companies (Mitsubishi Corporation Technos (Japan), MC Machinery Systems (U.S.) and Mitsubishi Corporation India Private Ltd.), MC is working to increase productivity and raise quality in the growing Indian manufacturing sector by promoting sales and service of industrial machinery. Since the beginning of the year, the new company has already participated in three exhibitions in India and many customers have welcomed MC's entrance into the market. In the future, MCCM plans to expand its line of products and build a sales and service network that reaches across India by establishing branch offices or technical centers in Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai.

MC Awarded Contract to Construct 1,300 MW Power Plant in The Netherlands

On February 1, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) signed an EPC* contract with major Dutch energy company Nuon for the construction of a 1,300 megawatt (MW) power plant in The Netherlands. Top management representing all parties involved and regional government officials attended a signing ceremony in Amsterdam to commemorate the occasion.

MC secured the contract for the gas-fired part of the power plant through the combined efforts of MC's Power Systems Export Unit, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Mitsubishi Nederland B.V. and Mitsubishi Corporation (UK) Plc. MHI will supply their most advanced F-class gas turbines, with leading-edge technology that makes them suited for both natural gas and synthetic gas produced from coal and biomass. By teaming up with MHI, MC is able to effectively contribute to Nuon's ultimate goal of building a clean multi-fuel power plant with CO2 capture based on Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology, one of the cleanest ways to produce energy from solid or liquid fuels.

Nuon will decide on the construction of the gasification part of the power plant within two years. The power plant will start supplying electricity in 2011. MC will maintain a project office in Amsterdam throughout the duration of the project.

MC's Partnership with The British Museum Celebrated in Newly Refurbished Galleries

In January 2008, The British Museum and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) announced a 10-year partnership that sees MC sponsoring the permanent galleries dedicated to Japanese culture in the museum. The Mitsubishi Corporation Japanese Galleries will feature objects from the museum's extensive Japanese collection, the most comprehensive in Europe. The galleries have been recently refurbished, now depicting a chronological story highlighting the continuities of Japanese culture over the centuries. Star objects include an impressive samurai lord's clock, enigmatic haniwa tomb figures, medieval Buddhist statues, samurai armor and swords, beautifully crafted contemporary ceramics, and even modern manga.

On February 27, an event was held in the newly refurbished galleries to celebrate MC's sponsorship. Opening speeches were made by MC Senior Corporate Advisor Minoru Makihara, The British Museum Director Neil Macgregor and Minister Kenji Hiramatsu of the Japanese Embassy in London. Nearly 300 distinguished guests gathered to commemorate the partnership and to appreciate the fine exhibits on display. The event was a true celebration of Anglo-Japanese relations and underlines the mutual appreciation that exists between Japan and the UK. MC's partnership with the museum reflects its commitment to contributing to the enrichment of society, as is laid out in its corporate philosophy “Three Corporate Principles”.
