FARM-Africa

Since it was established in 1985, FARM-Africa has implemented innovative grassroots projects in East and Southern Africa, working directly with smallholder farmers, livestock-keepers and forest communities to alleviate poverty and food insecurity, achieve sustainable development, and protect vital natural resources. By transferring knowledge, skills and technologies to local communities they help them to manage their own development and improve their lives.
In 2009 the MCFEA agreed to provide a grant of £60,000 over two years in support of FARM-Africa's Forest Conservation Project in northern Tanzania. This project will contribute to the long term conservation and reforestation of the Nou Forest ecosystems through developing and implementing sustainable community-led forest management systems, whilst also developing strong community self help groups that support poor rural households in earning regular income through non-timber forest products.
