Corporate Development is overseen directly by the President. These activities, carried out in the four areas of "Functional Development," "Business Sector Development," "Customer Relationship Development," and "Regional Development," include the planning and execution of companywide, medium- to long-term strategies, follow-up on the development of cutting-edge technologies, and provision of support to each Business Group's development-related operations.
In the areas of "Functional Development" and "Business Sector Development," Corporate Development plans medium- to long-term strategies mostly through the four committees horizontally integrating the Business Groups (IT Management Committee, Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Food & Agricultural Resources Committee, and Consumer Market Strategies Committee). In addition to this, business development divisions have been established for IT services functions, new energy business sector, and environment and water business sector. These business development divisions, together with IT Planning Department, which formulates companywide policies for introducing IT systems, are collectively termed the Corporate Development Section.
Furthermore, in the area of "Customer Relationship Development" which benefits from the combined strength of multiple Business Groups, and the area of "Regional Development" in which infrastructure projects are a key focus, Corporate Development performs the function of promoting horizontal integration of related Business Groups.
