Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty. Ltd. is an Australian-resident company established in 1985 as a 50-50 joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Its head office is located in Perth. MIMI holds a one-sixth equity interest in North West Shelf (NWS) Project, on the North West Shelf offshore of Western Australia.
With five partner companies, MIMI develops, produces, transports and sells natural gas, condensate, crude oil, and LPG. In addition to its mainstay business of supplying about 9.5 million tons of LNG a year to ten Japanese buyers, the company sells natural gas to the domestic market in Australia, and condensate, crude oil, and LPG to international markets.
In September 2008, production started at a new LNG production facility (Phase 5 activity in the LNG chain), contributing about 4.4 million tons to annual production, and with this addition we expect total production capacity to reach 16.3 million tons annually.
