Japan Australia LNG (MIMI) Pty. Ltd. is an Australian-resident company established in 1985 as a 50-50 joint venture between Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Its head office is located in Perth. MIMI holds a one-sixth equity interest in North West Shelf (NWS) Project, offshore Western Australia.
With five partner companies, MIMI develops, produces, transports and sells natural gas, condensate, crude oil, and LPG. In addition to its main business of supplying about 10 million tons of LNG a year to mainly ten Japanese utility companies, MIMI sells natural gas to the domestic market in Australia, and condensate, crude oil, and LPG to international markets.
In September 2008, production started at a new LNG production facility (Phase 5 activity in the LNG chain), contributing about 4.4 million tons to annual production, and with this addition we expect total production capacity to reach roughly 16.3 million tons annually.
