The Sakhalin II Project is being developed in two phases. The first phase saw the Piltun-Astokhskoye field developed as an initial crude oil production site and summer time crude oil production commenced there in July 1999. Currently, steady progress is being made in the second phase of the development, which targets the joint production of crude oil and natural gas (specifically the year-round production of crude oil and the commencement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) production).
