Respecting People—The Joy of Work - Developing infrastructure that promotes communication

With the MC staff growing in diversity, the use of IT systems advancing, and consolidated organizational management (including MC Group companies) becoming more advanced and complicated, the importance of communication between employees is becoming increasingly important. As such communication is important not only within divisions, but also transcending divisions, we are therefore putting in place various facilities and measures in accordance with our policy to invest in infrastructure to enable face-to-face communication opportunities.

Dormitory Accommodations and Employee Cafeteria

Dormitory Accommodations

MC's employee dormitory accommodations presently amount to 750 rooms, comprising four single male dormitory buildings with shared living facilities and four one-room-apartment buildings, all in the suburbs of Tokyo. If new employees wish to use these accommodations, they can do so regardless of the distance between their home and the company. About 90% of new employees in Japan utilize these accommodations, which can be used continuously for a maximum of 8 years. By living a dormitory lifestyle, not only does it serve as a basic education for new employees, but it also invigorates communication by establishing relationships between junior and senior employees that transcends the divisions of the company.

Employee Cafeteria

In April 2009, we opened an employee cafeteria in the basement of the Marunouchi Nakadori Building. The cafeteria provides nutritionally balanced meals. Because the cafeteria is located between Head Office's Mitsubishi Shoji Building and the Marunouchi Park Building, it functions as a place of communication that transcends divisions. The cafeteria is also used for organized friendly gatherings in the evening.

Also, in order to provide nutritionally balanced food, a health management system has been introduced that matches body weight, body mass index and blood pressure measurements with food data such as calories and fat content of meals eaten at the employee's cafeteria. The employee's data acquired here can be combined with the results of health examinations to help provide health guidance at medical clinics.

Operation of the employee dormitory accommodations and the employees' cafeteria reflects the wishes of our employees. A committee for dormitory accommodations for single employees and an employee-cafeteria examination committee hold meetings regularly to facilitate the implementation of measures based on dialogue with the Mitsubishi Corporation Employees Union.

Training Facilities

Training Facilities

MC owns Seminar House FOLIAGE, a training facility in Setagaya, Tokyo. The facility includes accommodation facilities and it can be utilized for small meetings through to large-scale extended training. As MC encourages and supports each division or organizational unit to regularly hold training camps, this facility is used also to energize communication within the company.
