Support for Research and Education on Solar Power Technologies on in Libya

Today, A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Al Fateh University, the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (established in 1957, and is the largest university in Libya), and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) to carry out a program to stimulate applied field study of new energy.  The program is based on MC’s intention to contribute to the society from a medium - long term viewpoint.

The program is aimed at encouraging renewable energy research activities undertaken at Al Fateh University, and is expected to contribute to raising the level of academic studies as well as to promoting the use of clean energy.  The duration of the program is initially set at two years (2009-2011), in which research equipment will be donated and installed, followed by expert exchange activities.  Actual activities will start with the installation of photovoltaic power generation demonstration equipment within the university campus, and collecting its performance data.

Although Libya is currently a major oil/gas producing country, it is seeking to diversify its energy resources by introducing new energy technologies.  Among them, solar energy is regarded as one of the most promising sources.

MC, through its global network, seeks to further our social contribution activities in response to the conditions and needs in each society.  We also endeavour to enhance our contribution activities into many more societies and domains.
