Sakhalin Energy, which Mitsubishi Corporation participates in the equity of 10 %, have successfully commenced the LNG export from the LNG production and export facilities which is based on Port Prigorodnoye (Sakhalin Island, Russian Federation) on 29th of March. The exported LNG will be taken by Tokyo Gas and Tokyo Electric Power Company.

 

The two LNG trains of the Sakhalin2 project are designed to produce 9.6 million tones of LNG per annual. 60% of the LNG which is produced from the project will be supplied to Japan.

 

This is the first LNG export from the Russian Federation, and it is considered that the commencement of this project will greatly contribute to the stable supply of the energy to the Asia Pacific LNG market as a supply source located near to Japan, and it is also expected to diversify the LNG supply source to the Asia Pacific LNG market.

 

Mitsubishi Corporation as a shareholder of the Sakhalin Energy, considers this commencement of the LNG export as an important milestone, and will continue its support to this project to achieve the establishment of the stable supply structure.
