Recruitment of University Graduates as Business Support Staff
From FY2011, Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) will begin recruiting Business Support Staff (ippan-shoku seishain) through public applications by new university graduates.
MC stopped recruiting Administrative Support Staff (jimu-shokusho) in 1995, and combined its “General” and “Support” staff classifications (sogo-shoku and ippan-shoku respectively) in 2000, thereby paving the way for all employees to pursue professional careers. At the same time, the company reorganized its back-office structure, separating or combining certain operations. Core administration continued to be handled by the parent company, while supporting operations were increasingly being spun off to affiliates or outsourced.
In recent years, however, improving work efficiency has revealed certain operations that cannot be adequately documented in instruction manuals. Accordingly, it is more important that over the long term, administrative know-how be passed down from one generation of employees to the next. With this in mind, Personnel Systems were improved in 2009 and the new category of “Business Support Staff” was created to handle back-office work.
From 2009, some Contract Staff (keiyaku shain) had their employee status changed to Business Support Staff. Such internal changes will continue, but from FY2011, MC will also be hiring new university graduates in this category. The aim is to secure high-potential employees in a stable fashion over the medium to long term. The selection process will begin in April, 2010.

MC also plans to hire around 150 new graduates as Regular Staff (sogo-shoku) for FY2011.
