Energy Business Group : Petroleum & Carbon Business Division

Petroleum & Carbon Business Division is responsible for procurement and sale of crude oil, petroleum products, biomass fuel products, carbon materials and carbon products. The division is also in charge of management support of our business investment (Mitsubishi Corporation Energy, Astomos Energy, and etc.) and expands on distribution business.

Petroleum & Carbon Business Division has three business domains: petroleum, carbon, and LPG.

In petroleum business, we purchase, sell and trade crude oil and petroleum products. Furthermore, we are engaged in wide variety of operations ranging from distribution business and retail sales to general consumers via service stations through affiliate companies.

In carbon business, we import, export and trade offshores a wide range of carbon materials and products. We cover the entire industry with businesses active in both upstream and downstream sectors and enjoy a high market share in the respective markets. Our upstream business links to petroleum and coal industries and downstream links to steel, aluminum and other industries.

In LPG business, we support the corporate management of Astomos Energy Corporation which was founded on April 1, 2006. We aim to contribute to the sound development of Astomos Energy, while cooperating with the Japan's national LPG reserve plan being developed in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.

Strategy

In the petroleum business, we aim to further improve our sales infrastructure through efforts, led by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy, to expand business fields and boost cost competitiveness. We will also seek to streamline, make effective use of our petroleum terminals and shipping services and optimize our logistics operations. In our overseas operations, while pushing ahead with business investments to capture demand in growing markets, we will establish and strengthen our business infrastructure to expand our trading business.

In the carbon business, our far-reaching ties in the carbon industry and our manufacturing joint ventures will help us locate new opportunities in the carbon value chain and will strengthen our overall presence in the carbon industry.

In the LPG business field, through ASTOMOS ENERGY, a joint venture with Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. which ranks at the top of the industry in terms of the amount of LPG handled, we aim to further develop our LPG business.
