e-methane (Synthetic Methane) Development Project

In order to decarbonize heat demand, which accounts for about 60% of the residential and industrial sectors, introduction of “e-methane” (synthetic methane), in which utilization of existing gas infrastructure and curb on additional social costs, could be expected. MC is conducting detailed joint studies with Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas,Toho Gas, and Sempra Infrastructure to construct a supply chain, and is aiming to produce e-methane from raw materials such as hydrogen, CO2, and water in the US. From 2030, the aim is to annually export 130,000 tons of e-methane to Japan utilizing the Cameron LNG Terminal, a project in which we participate in.
