Based in Australia, Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd (MDP) is involved in the exploration, development, production and sale of metal resources. It jointly operates its metallurgical coal (also know as steelmaking coal) business through BMA, together with its partner BHP. BMA is one of the largest producers of metallurgical coal. BMA produces high-quality and cost competitive metallurgical coal at its five operating mines, together with a rail network and port terminal.

The Ferrous Raw Materials Division oversees the operations of high-quality metallurgical coal and iron ore mines in Australia and the Americas through solid partnerships with leading mining firms.
In alignment with our commitment to advancing the decarbonization agenda within the steel industry, in cooperation with the Mineral Resources Trading Division and other key business units, our focus is twofold: first, to ensure a reliable supply of premium metallurgical coal and iron ore; and second, to explore new avenues of growth, such as the potential of direct reduced iron (DRI).
