Equipping MC-owned bulk carriers
with wind-propulsion equipment (rigid sail)
The business model is currently undergoing transition from that of the conventional shipping business to a next-generation maritime business. This involves transforming from existing ship assets to low or zero-emission specification ships, addressing industry challenges with maritime digital transformation (DX), and engaging in initiatives toward the realization of next-generation energy transport carriers business in carrying cargo such as ammonia, hydrogen, and liquefied CO2. One of such initiatives, for instance, involves equipping MC-owned bulk carriers with wind-propulsion equipment, thereby resulting in an expected 20% improvement in fuel efficiency compared to conventional ships of the same type. This will mark the world’s first-ever attempt to install such equipment on an existing fleet.
