Shiori Funamizu

Suffered a spinal cord injury in an accident as a junior high school student and was left needing a wheelchair. Started regular wheelchair tennis training in April 2016 and won her first tournament after just four months. In 2018, she was the only Japanese player selected to play at the World Junior Masters and won the doubles while coming 2nd in the singles. Her singles ranking is currently 5th in Japan and 23th in the world (as of August 2019).
