Mitsubishi Corporation and the Mitsubishi Group of Companies

Mitsubishi Corporation (or ʻMC’)'s scope of business is often difficult to grasp. The company is often confused with other companies such as Mitsubishi Motors or Mitsubishi Electric and MC is often mistaken for their holding company. In fact, although sharing the well-known three diamond mark in their logos, each of these companies, including MC, is completely separate and independent from each other, but continue to share the same ʻMitsubishi’ name and history.

So what is Mitsubishi Corporation?

Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is a global integrated business enterprise that develops and operates business together with its global network. MC has eight Business Groups that operate across virtually every industry: Environmental Energy, Materials Solution, Mineral Resources, Urban Development & Infrastructure, Mobility, Food Industry, Smart-Life Creation and Power Solution. Through these eight Business Groups, MC’s current activities have expanded far beyond its traditional trading operations to include project development, production and manufacturing operation, working in collaboration with our trusted partners around the globe. With an unwavering commitment to conducting business with integrity and fairness, MC remains fully dedicated to growing its businesses while contributing to a prosperous society.

Although MC's activities encompass everything from trading to business investment, the essence of the company can best be described as focusing on the needs of customers and society, innovating business models, and reliably providing functions and services to propel these businesses forward

MC is just one of many independent companies that bear the Mitsubishi name. Founded in the early 1870s as a steamship company by Yataro Iwasaki, the original ʻMitsubishi’ grew into a collection of companies engaged in most sectors of the Japanese economy. After World War II, the Mitsubishi holdings were broken up into several independent companies, many of which still bear the Mitsubishi name and carry on its tradition of leadership and corporate principles.
