MC Invests in Preferred Networks to Establish Strategic Alliance
Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) is pleased to announce its investment in Preferred Networks, Inc. (PFN) to establish a strategic alliance focused on AI.
PFN is a unique AI company capable of not only developing high-performance generative AI models but also designing AI chips that consumes significantly less power. MC is excited to the opportunity to combine PFN’s holistic expertise in AI value chain and MC’s global network in various industries over long years of business experience.
The alliance will promote PFN’s “MN-Core” series, AI processor that possess both excellent computational speed and power efficiency. Furthermore, MC, PFN and Internet Initiative Japan, Inc. have joined forces to establish an AI cloud computing joint venture named Preferred Computing Infrastructure (PFCI), that will provide secure and stable computational infrastructure.
The alliance will also further expand partnership in the AI solutions space. In June of this year, MC announced a partnership with Preferred Computational Chemistry, Inc. (PFCC) and has been collaborating in the materials and chemicals fields. Taking opportunity of the new alliance, MC Digital, a wholly owned subsidiary of MC, has equipped its “Tachyon” generative AI service with PFN’s large language model “PLaMo”.
Through collaboration with PFN, MC will dedicate to the development and implementation of AI, expansion of AI infrastructure, and to contribute industrial and societal needs.
Toru Nishikawa
Representative Director & CEO, Preferred Networks, Inc.
Here at PFN, we're working on the vertical integration of an AI-tech value chain that extends from models built on generative AI to super computers and chips. Our company develops products and solutions that offer highly sophisticated software-hardware connections. This strategic alliance will let us take advantage of MC’s expansive network, which covers both global markets and diverse industries. It should prove particularly advantageous in promoting the global development of computing resources and infrastructure. We're also looking forward to providing our PLaMo model to MC Digital and otherwise working with it on AI solutions that will help fuel future growth.
