Realizing an Inclusive Society

Comprehensive Medical Support Project in Mandalay Region, Myanmar

On December 2, a ceremony was held at the Wachet Charity Hospital in Sagaing Region to commemorate MC’s donation to the mobile clinic activities in Mandalay Region run by the NPO, International Medical Volunteers Japan Heart. Access to medical care in central Myanmar is limited, and volunteer medical staff from Japan will provide medical treatments including surgery through the mobile clinic activities. Local volunteer medical staff will also participate, which will help strengthen their capacity in the field of medicine.

Support of Advanced IT Education to Persons with Disabilities, Vietnam

On November 18, a ceremony to commemorate MC’s donation to the advanced IT education program for persons with disabilities was held at the Action to the Community Development Center in Hanoi. 7.1% of Vietnam’s population is said to have some form of disability and many face difficulties finding work and earning stable incomes. The 6-month IT education program will help support participants, who range from ages 15 to 40, in their pursuit of employment and independence.

Support to the Girls’ Leadership Program, Kenya

On November 11, a ceremony was held to commemorate MC’s donation to the Girls Leadership Academies at the Kibera School for Girls in Kibera, one of the largest slums in Kenya. The school is run by Shining Hope for Communities, an NGO focused on the education and empowerment of women and children living in the impoverished areas of Kenya through high quality primary education and mentorship programs. Mitsubishi Corporation will support the 2020 grade seven class for one year.

Mitsubishi Corporation International Scholarship for Studies in Japan Exchange Event

In 1991, Mitsubishi Corporation started a scholarship program to support international students attending universities in Japan. This year, MC is supporting 100 international students from 42 countries, representing 49 universities across Japan.

On November 1, the scholarship students were invited to MC for an exchange event. In the morning, students visited the Former Residence of the Iwasaki Family and the Mitsubishi Archives. The afternoon session consisted of group discussions where each scholar spoke about their focus of study, background, culture and how they want to use their study abroad experience in the future for their country, Japan, and the world. After the discussion session a reception was held to continue networking and further deepen ties with other scholars and MC employees.

Mitsubishi Friendship Cup (Mitsubishi Yugi-Hai) 2019 Soccer Competition for Disabled Persons, China

The Mitsubishi Friendship Cup (Mitsubishi Yugi-Hai) 2019 Soccer Competition for Disabled Persons finals match, sponsored by 10 Mitsubishi Group companies, was held from October 12th to the 16th in Beijing, China.

In China, opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in sports of the competitive level has been improving, but support at the grassroots level is still an issue. This tournament was started in 2015 to provide opportunities to encourage more people with disabilities to participate in sports.

Approximately 280 people from 26 teams, consisting of players with hearing, visual and with intellectual disabilities, made it through the tough qualification rounds held in various parts of China to participate in the finals competition. All participants played with great intensity making for a very exciting finals tournament.

Supporting Inclusion for Youth with Down Syndrome, Argentina

On September 23, a ceremony for a project aimed at supporting inclusion for children with Down syndrome in Argentina was held at the Down Syndrome Association of the Argentine Republic (ASDRA) in Buenos Aires. Through this project, MC is supporting job skills training workshops for 20 youth with Down syndrome, as well as awareness workshops on Down syndromes at 12 primary schools in Buenos Aires. The school workshops will provide opportunities for three youths to be involved as educators making presentations on diversity and inclusion as their first job experience. Mitsubishi Argentina S.A.C. y R. staff attended the ceremony and training workshops and exchanged views with the Down syndrome trainees and teachers.

Support to the “Center for Assistance to the Students with Disabilities” at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), Russian Federation

On September 6, a new agreement to establish and support the “Center for Assistance to the Students with Disabilities” for the 2019-2020 academic year was executed between the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) of Russia and Mitsubishi Corporation. FEFU is a leading university in the Far Eastern Region of Russia, and the new center will make a significant contribution to realizing an inclusive society and fostering young talent with disabilities in the multicultural community of FEFU. Through infrastructure improvements and special staff training, MC will help support classes and training programs previously not available to students with disabilities. The center also aims to create a society in which everyone can lead a fair and comfortable life by providing disability awareness training to non-disabled people and staff.
