MC to hold “The Great East Japan Earthquake Press Photo Exhibition”

February 18, 2014

Revisiting the Reconstruction
Mitsubishi Corporation once again teams up with The Asahi Shimbun to host the “The Great East Japan Earthquake Press Photo Exhibition”, this time in Kaohsiung and Taipei, Taiwan and in New York, USA.

Three years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake, and steady progress is being made towards reconstruction in the areas most affected, including the restoration of infrastructure such as roads and bridges, and the resumption of the agriculture, forestry and fishing industries. Despite this progress, however, many people still live in temporary housing, and much work remains to be done towards achieving full recovery. The question most often raised, then, is what precisely the status of reconstruction and recovery in the affected areas is at present. The purpose of holding another press photo exhibition, therefore, is to present a pictorial overview of the realities surrounding the disaster and provide an insight into reconstruction efforts to date.

Press photos showing the reality of the disaster
The photo exhibition shows photographs taken by Asahi Shimbun photojournalists in the affected areas around Tohoku. Presented in chronological order, the photographs vividly depict the circumstances faced at the time of the disaster, including facial expressions captured from various angles, and powerful images of people as they work towards reconstruction.
