With the materials industry being one of Japan's core industries, the Materials Solution Group takes a comprehensive view of its supply chain and promotes the strengthening of competitiveness and reduction / decarbonization of the industry.
Utilizing knowledge and experience in the broad materials industry gained through trading and our existing businesses, we will define focus areas, develop and strengthen our business, build a large-scale business foundation in each area, and aim to create a business portfolio that will provide stable profits.

Carbon & Ceramics Division
The division operates a manufacturing and sales business for cement and ready-mixed concrete, which are essential materials for the construction and infrastructure sectors, in addition to operating one of the world‘s largest silica sand producing company. Located in Australia, the company is wholly owned by MC and produces high-grade silica sand, one of the main materials for glass used in solar power generation, etc.
The division is also involved in the manufacturing, sale and trading of graphite electrodes for electric furnaces, as well as carbon materials essential for lithium batteries.

Steel Products Division
The division develops wide range of business in the distribution, inventory, processing/manufacturing of steel products through Metal One (a steel trading company, 60% owned by MC).
The division contributes to resolving industrial issues by working to further enhance and strengthen the steel product value chain, utilizing our knowledge of mobility, construction, infrastructure and others industries, global network and digital technology.
Performance Materials Division
The division is developing its manufacturing and sales business with its partners based on competitive raw materials in the petrochemical and basic chemical fields. In addition, in order to achieve decarbonization and circular economies, while maintaining the function of chemical materials and providing a stable supply, the division is actively working to transition to materials with a lower environmental impact.

Business Development Division
In operations related to the materials industry which is facing various industrial challenges, such as achieving carbon neutrality etc., the division is working on the development and provision of business transformation solutions (DX, EX, MX, recycling, etc.). Additionally, we have been making efforts in the incubation business to cultivate the seeds of new materials.

Global Marketing Division
The division is carrying out trading activities worldwide utilizing its strong market presence in the petrochemical field (olefins, aromatic compounds, plastics, etc.) and basic chemical field (industrial salt, chlor-alkali products, PVC, methanol, ammonia, etc.). While providing the functions required by client industries and business partners, the division is working to increase the value of the companies it is invested in and discover “seeds of growth” for the development of new businesses.

Carbon & Ceramics Division
POSCO MC MATERIALS
Manufactures and sells needle coke, the raw material used for graphite electrodes, which are indispensable for the operation of electric furnaces (steel product recycling), a market that is expected to grow in the future. The company is a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical, MC and POSCO FUTURE M, a subsidiary of South Korea’s largest steel company, POSCO.
Nippon Electrode Co. Ltd.,
A joint-venture between Nippon Light Metal Company, Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation.
It is engaged in the production and sale of various carbon products, including mainly carbon blocks for blast furnaces and electric furnaces, as well as carbon cathode blocks for aluminum smelting.
Furthermore, it is also involved in the graphitization business of anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Mitsubishi Cement Corporation / MCC Development Corporation
A joint venture between Mitsubishi UBE Cement Corporation and MC that develops the integrated manufacturing and sales of cement and ready-mix concrete in California, US, as well as other regions. With the aim of reducing CO2 emissions, the company is also working to introduce CCU technology that utilizes ready-mix concrete and other materials.
Cape Flattery Silica Mines Pty., Ltd.
A wholly owned subsidiary of MC that owns one of the world's largest silica sand mines, located in Australia. For over 50 years the company has provided silica sand that is the raw material of sheet glass and LCD glass, etc. which have seen remarkable demand growth in Asian countries, including Japan.

A joint venture between Sojitz Corporation and MC. It is engaged in the processing and distribution of steel products.
Performance Materials Division
SPDC Ltd.
Owned 33.34% by Mitsubishi Corporation. This company invests on the Japan side in Saudi Arabia's SHARQ petrochemical business. SHARQ's production capacity is 1.55 million tons of PE and 1.375 million tons of EG, making it one of the global leaders.
CARIBBEAN GAS CHEMICAL LIMITED (CGCL)
The company produces 1 million tons/year of methanol in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, using locally-sourced natural gas as the main raw material.
METANOL DE ORIENTE,METOR, S.A. (METOR)
Owned 23.75% by Mitsubishi Corporation. Manufactures natural gas-based methanol in Venezuela, which it sells primarily to Europe.
Riken Americas Corporation
A joint venture between Riken Technos Corporation and MC located in the U.S., this company manufactures PVC and elastomer resin compounds for a variety of applications, including automobile, construction and infrastructure.
Amfine Chemical Corporation
Manufactures and sells functional materials (plastics additives) to add various properties such as durability and flame resistance to plastics. Amfine Chemical Corporation is a joint venture between MC and ADEKA, a leading company in this field.

Toyobo MC Corporation
Toyobo MC develops, manufactures, and sells functional materials (engineering plastics, coating and adhesive raw materials, etc.) that help to not only promote weight reduction and electrification in the mobility sector, but also respond to environmental issues. The company is a joint venture between MC and Toyobo, a high-performance materials manufacturer with advanced technology.
Beyond Materials Corporation
A joint venture between MC and a group company of the FEV Group, a major German engineering service provider with user knowledge in the automotive industry and other sectors. The company provides market research, strategy planning and execution support, product development and demonstration testing support, as well as digital solution services for the materials industry.
Global Marketing Division

Owned 100% by Mitsubishi Corporation. Sales of synthetic resin raw materials and products, both in Japan and overseas.
