What's the story behind those words?
-
I value this expression because it reminds me that I must always do the best I can today, and not someday in the future. Otherwise my career will never be rewarding. When I was in the track club at school, if I decided I was going to do something that day, whether it was just my regular daily training, training before school, or even some kind of post-training routine to help keep myself in shape, I always committed to it and got it done. An advisor who was always watching out for me used to constantly say, "Never put off what you can do now until later."
All of those steady efforts during my school days paid dividends and gave me confidence, and they shaped who I am today. Now, as a working member of society, I'm keenly reminded of how important it is to resolve matters right then and there, even when it concerns the most trivial of uncertainties about a customer's needs. I'm convinced that daily dedication is the source of self-awareness and belief, so I will continue to remind myself of those words, "one of these days is none of these days."

How rewarding is your current job?
-
One thing is that I can still learn. My work right now involves buying aluminum from overseas suppliers and selling it to variety of different buyers in Japan and around the world.
In the first department I worked in at MC, I learned about managing profit, loss and risk, and now that I'm actually overseeing trade deals, I'm learning completely different aspects of the business, including negotiations with both Japanese and non-Japanese clients, handovers, payment completions, and so on. Ever since I joined the company, my career has been non-stop learning, and I find that very rewarding.
It's obviously also rewarding when customers show their appreciation, and when I get to locate new customers and take on other fresh challenges. That work has included ideas on achieving carbon neutrality, which have allowed me to collaborate with other offices and business groups, sell aluminum in new ways, and sell other products (carbon credits) as well. Those things are still quite difficult for me, but they also help make my job very motivating and inspiring.
-
What are your next challenges, and what kind of world are you hoping to help realize?
-
Looking back on my career so far, I've gained a wide range of experience, from managing profit and loss for mining and trading companies to negotiating contracts in non-ferrous metals trading. Right now I'm involved in other products besides metals and experiencing work in a variety of other fields. I'm also in an environment where I speak directly with customers and hear their opinions first hand. I intend to use this experience and continue taking on new challenges, and I hope that before too long they will be helping to solve some of the world's problems.
Efforts to decarbonize the mineral resources industry are picking up momentum, but supply stability is becoming a serious issue. Every day, my work gives me access to the most recent information on suppliers' policies and concerns with respect to going carbon neutral, and I'd like to take advantage of that information to help stabilize supply. From a trading standpoint as well, I'd like our businesses to lead the world towards net zero and assist customers along the way by combining carbon credits, recycled materials and other green products, and by building the systems to supply those low-carbon resources.
