Know MC's People
- What words inspire you?
-
Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get.

What's the story behind those words?
-
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say it inspires me, but ever since my school days, that scene from the movie "Forrest Gump" always comes to mind when I face a challenge.
I experienced a lot in just my first decade or so with MC, studying at an American law school, training at an MC Group company, and so on, but there were times when I was concerned about exactly where my career was heading. As a member of the Legal Department, I knew that I'd need to gain new perspectives if I hoped to level up; but on the other hand, I found the work there rewarding because it let me experience shosha businesses and see up close how they're run.
I suppose it was that insight that led to the granting of my request for a transfer to the Corporate Administration Department, where I'm able to gain a new brand of specialized know-how. This transfer has also broadened my world by enabling me to collaborate with people from many other departments.
We never know what life's going to throw at us, which is why I'm so determined to adapt and do my very best, no matter what new working environments my future career puts me in. -
How rewarding is your current job?
-
I spent more than ten years in the Legal Department, where the work has a lot of benefits. Legal is involved in projects from the very beginning, and it helps put them together by working closely with those on the front lines of the concerned businesses.
Since March 2024, I've been a member of the Corporate Administration Department, where my work covers our general shareholders meetings, governance, disclosures and other responsibilities. Here I can apply the expertise and reasoning skills I built up through my work in Legal, and at the same time gain some close insight into deliberations by upper management, including how to strengthen consolidated governance, MC's future direction as a company, and so on. I'm also getting to know how different stakeholders view MC and otherwise learning new things every day.
The Legal Department and Corporate Administration Department are positioned differently at MC, and therefore support its operations from separate vantage points, the former from the front lines of the company's businesses, and the latter from the front lines of its management. Despite their differences, both departments have allowed me to experience the enormous scale of our company's operations, which has been very rewarding. -
What are your next challenges, and what kind of world are you hoping to help realize?
-
Considering I'm still part of Corporate, I expect I'll have even more opportunities in the years ahead to help the business groups create value. In terms of personal challenges, I'm always thinking about how I can use my experience in different departments to help upper management.
The question I'm asking myself, is how do I continue refining my expertise while fully demonstrating it to add value? My experience being transferred and everything I've learned from my superiors and senior colleagues have reminded me that it's through connections with others that my own skills thrive. As I do my best to support MC's growth and development, the "One Corporate" spirit of unity is something I'm keen to embrace, so I'll always be looking to connect with the company's other professionals. Obviously that means those in the business groups I'm working with, but it also means members of our other Corporate Staff departments.
I'm also excited about helping position MC Corporate as a model for first-rate practices in ESG, as those criteria for evaluating performance and governance are certain to gain greater significance from here on.
